The Guelph trial of Mondex, discussed in the Mondex Canada (A) case, 9A98E018, was one of the most high-profile Mondex trials anywhere in the world at the time. Mondex Canada, at the behest of some of its member financial institutions, terminated the Guelph trial in late 1998. Various reasons were given for stopping the trial, including the banks' preoccupation with Y2K problems, the state of the economy, etc. Mondex Canada tried to put as positive a spin on the event as possible. Nonetheless, cessation of the trial could be viewed as a death knell for Mondex, at least in Canada if not beyond.
