When the current chief executive officer (CEO) at Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK), based in Saskatchewan, Canada, accepted the position in August 2022, her first role as a CEO, she was unaware that the organization had undergone significant changes in 2022 and that, with the CEO role having been vacant for a few months prior to her joining, decisions had been paused as the organization awaited the new CEO. She realized early that the organization’s financial sustainability required her attention, as several program funding sources were set to expire soon. Johnson was preparing for the January 2023 board meeting, where she planned to present a revised strategy map and plan to the WESK board that would answer two questions: How did WESK keep moving forward with programming even as program funding ended? How did WESK sustainably achieve its goals of creating impact for members?
