In 2020, Aditi Kaushik, a young female professional with experience in human resources and operations, was formally inducted into her family’s logistics business, Murti Supply Chain Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Her father, Sunil Kaushik, founded the company decades earlier and established it as a trusted name in supply chain and transportation services—and his legacy persisted. Family members at the company often bypassed Aditi; vendors hesitated to share operational concerns directly with her; and peers within the organization deferred to Sunil. Aditi’s challenges were compounded by the nature of the logistics industry: traditionally male-dominated with deeply entrenched informal networks and cultural perceptions that demanded male leadership. How can Aditi overcome both internal and external apprehensions while building sustainable legitimacy as the new successor in a male-dominated industry?
