In January 2025, the managing editor and chief executive officer of Megatherm Induction Limited faced a critical enterprise-level decision. A year after the Kolkata, India company was listed on India’s National Stock Exchange for Small and Medium Enterprises platform at a premium over its issue price, shareholder expectations had intensified—particularly regarding operational transparency, efficiency, and scalability. As a mid-sized induction heating and melting equipment manufacturer with a growing global presence, its legacy systems could no longer support its evolving business needs. In response, an internal cross-functional team launched a structured enterprise resource planning evaluation process, engaging multiple vendors and assessing them across strategic, functional, and financial dimensions. The process shortlisted three vendors for detailed evaluation and also surfaced two strategic options—deferral and hybrid approach—for consideration by the board of directors. With internal reviews complete and diverse stakeholder opinions emerging, the managing editor and chief executive officer had to decide which ERP platform would best address operational inefficiencies, support the company’s long-term vision, and satisfy the company’s expectations, while navigating complex trade-offs in functionality, scalability, cybersecurity, cost, and implementation risk.
