The head of strategic partnerships at M-PESA Africa has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of M-PESA’s past growth and with suggesting a new strategy to contribute to the development of financial services for people and communities across Africa. Having provided basic financial access to monetary transactions through mobile phones to large numbers of users in Kenya, M-PESA was entering a new stage of growth focused on expanding its product offerings. He had to consider the political, economic, social, and technological factors that had shaped M-PESA’s growth trajectory. Additionally, he must reflect on M-PESA’s current business model and key success factors and outline an expansion strategy by identifying and assessing the different growth opportunities available to M-PESA within and beyond Africa.
