In July 2021, executives of Jamaica Broilers Group Limited (JBG), a vertically integrated poultry business headquartered in Jamaica with a subsidiary in Haiti (Haiti Broilers S.A.), were monitoring the social and political fallout from the assassination of Haitian president Jovenel Moise. Haiti Broilers had already reduced staff and operations in 2019 because of ongoing civil unrest. With the presidential assassination in 2021, JBG expected further volatility in the country. The JBG team needed to decide whether JBG should partially exit and maintain some operations in Haiti, or whether it should completely cease operations in Haiti.
