In June 2023, the Lotus Petal Foundation founder and his management team were discussing plans to significantly scale up the capacity of the Lotus Petal Foundation school Lotus Petal Senior Secondary School. The school was a significant initiative for the foundation. The founder hoped to accommodate 10,000 underprivileged children in an expanded Lotus Petal Senior Secondary School to be educated, fed, and set on a path to enlightenment and financial freedom. Lotus Petal Foundation was launched in 2011 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making underprivileged Indian children financially independent through skill-based education, nutrition, and health care. Lotus Petal Foundation’s primary sources of funding were initially personal contributions from the founders, as well as donations and grants from individuals and from the corporate social responsibility budgets of large organizations. The founder and his team were proud of the foundation’s achievements to date, but they were wondering how to expand their work to benefit more children. To plan for the future, they had to consider how Lotus Petal Foundation’s financial imperatives had changed since its inception and what options they could explore to attain financial sustainability.
