Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Inc. (Diamond) was created in 2001 with two small wineries in the Niagara region of Ontario. Over the years it established a portfolio of wine labels, spanning value categories, growing both organically and by acquisition. One aspect of Diamond that set it apart from other small wineries was its distribution business, which provided access to valuable channels in the Canadian market. Consumption trends were changing in the wine industry, and distribution channels were shifting due to the inevitable e-commerce, but also due to deregulation allowing sales in grocery stores in Ontario and questions around tariffs from the United States.
