A student-run, not-for-profit program, Leading Education and Development in Emerging Regions (LEADER) sent teams of business students to teach western business practices in the former Soviet Union. In preparation for the three-week assignment at the end of the school term, the students were expected to participate in social events to build team spirit, as well as practical work, such as preparing teaching materials, making travel arrangements and fundraising. Before the trip begins, one team experiences conflicts. A team member insists on a different travel schedule, so that she can fly with her boyfriend and the site team leader has some issues with her attitude. When the team arrives in Kiev, Ukraine, the conflict escalates as the two are paired to teach together and are not able to get along. The team member expresses his frustration to another team member and asks her to act as a mediator. She realized that the success of the teaching program is at stake and needs to decide what responsibility she has to resolve the situation. This is a supplement to Richard Ivey School of Business - The LEADER Project (A), product number 9B093C046, which discusses the program's dilemma about its future.
